LSR’s lifeline: Balbir Sir
College life is sure a crazy time when you need lots of things: From permissions to hold events, to random mic checks, to occasional dose of motivation. Well, students of Lady Shri Ram College for Women find all of that at one spot: Balbir Sir!
He was born in one of the adjoining areas of the very same college- Zamrudpur and used to come to LSR in the evening as a child for tuitions. This was his very first association with LSR. And later, it bloomed into a bond that now seems unbreakable.
By record, he is the head of ‘maintenance, supervision, quality maintenance’. He joined this college 15 years back as a daily wage worker and now he is the one person who everyone runs to for every little or big help. Personally, whenever I’ve spoken to him, he is the one who always has inspiring stories about the world in general and funny stories about the college in particular.
Here’s one for instance- He reported this incident to the College Magazine when he was being interviewed last year- “Very recently, a couple of students asked me for tables. I told them there are two tables: one each in the Vice Principal’s office and the Principal’s office, and I obviously assumed they knew I was joking. The fun part came when they approached me thrice after that, asking how to get the Principal’s desk, and that’s when I realized they actually tried to get it!”
That’s a typical day in the life of Balbir Sir- He would get an average of 50 calls a day, he would help the students with everything that they need, sometimes accompanied with light humor, sometimes with wisdom. There’s barely anyone who wouldn’t know him for his helpful and jovial nature.
He is a living example of how age is just a number and one can always continue to work with utmost sincerity and win hearts. Here’s to Balbir sir a.k.a. ‘Boss’.
